Welcome to Mr. Sollars' Web Site!

Welcome to my website. I am a former math teacher at Langham Creek High School here in Houston, Texas. I came to teaching after quitting my job as a Petroleum Reservoir Engineer to stay home with my kids. My wife and I decided that one of us needed to be home so that our kids didn't come home to an empty house. At the time, 1999 or so, there was lots of news about the things that unsupervised kids were getting into, particularly drugs and sex. So, I was a stay-at-home dad and eventually began to look for opportunities to keep myself busy during the day. So I volunteered at our local high school (Langham Creek) and discovered that teaching was incredibly rewarding and I found it to be tons of fun. The interaction with students was great and it felt good to be helping kids that needed and wanted help. Eventually we decided that I could go back to work if I became a teacher so that I would have the same schedule as our kids. Our priority was for me to be home when the kids got home and I also would be home when our kids were off for school holidays. When they started high school and were active band kids, I could actually get home closer to about 5:00 PM and still have time to make dinner. So I started an alternative teacher certification program, obtained a teaching certificate in Math 8-12 and started working as a teacher at Langham Creek in the Fall of 2001. The boxes below are where I used to post worked homework assignments to provide my students, and their parents, with examples of correctly worked problems so that they could use them to study or review for tests. Parents could also use them to review Geomtery so that they could help their kids if their own math skills had deteriorated since their high school days. I will update this from time to time as I struggle to decide where to take my web site.

P.S.: Enjoy the music. I will leave the assignments boxes below simply because I hate to give up completely the very rewarding and enjoyable time I had as a teacher. Maybe over time I will explain more about why I decided to give up teaching.

I went to Scotland to play The Old Course at St. Andrews this summer(2005). If you are a real golfer, you have to go to Scotland and play The Old Course sometime in your lifetime. If you would like to view some of my Scotland pictures, here they are: My Scotland Pictures.

I went to Spain during the Christmas 2005 break. If you would like to view my Spain pictures (no golf, it was Christmas and cold; 30 degrees all the time), here they are: My Spain Pictures.

I went to Myrtle Beach South Carolina last summer (2006). If you would like to see my Myrtle Beach pictures, here they are: My Myrtle Beach Pictures.

I went back to Palm Springs this summer (June 2008). The weather was positively "balmy" for Palm Springs. Temperatures were only around 100 degrees which is cool for Palm Springs. Temperatures always seemed to be about 120 degrees in the past. The temperatures started to drop about 5:00 PM and by the time the sun was behind the mountains, it was very nice. Low temperatures and virtually no humidity. It was absolutely beautiful in the evenings. I took very few pictures this year so no special pictures to show. Later alligators.

I went to Sea Island Georgia for my golfing trip this year(2009). I didn't take too many pictures this year but here they are: My Sea Island Georgia Pictures.

I went to Albuquerque, New Mexico and Branson, Missouri for my golfing trips this year(2010). I didn't take too many pictures but here they are: My Albuquerque and Branson Pictures.

I went to Albuquerque, New Mexico again for my golfing trip this year(2011). I didn't take too many pictures but here they are: My Albuquerque Pictures.
